Plant Exchange
The drive to Oxford may have seemed long for some, but once there, you were not disappointed. As you arrived at the Daniel’s home, the talents of Chef Ervin at his BBQ filled the air. As you entered the backyard the natural setting of rolling hills and acres of woods put you in a very relaxing mode. We could only imagine how Mother Nature would bless this land with her fall color change making this land picture perfect if only, we were a were a month or so later.
Nineteen members arrived bearing various plants for an open exchange. Our hosts Ervin and Antoinette Daniel’s told us how lucky or unlucky they are living in an area having numerous types of wildlife.
Ervin explained that the family swimming pool has seen its days and decided to utilize the area for a Koi pond. Keeping the pools circular deck in place, Ervin gutted the pools main structure, dug deeper, put in a liner, filter system and placed rocks and boulders up to what is now a circular observation deck. Keeping the raised deck in place provides protection from natures predators.
In the lower part of the property, is a natural mud pond that is home to Koi, goldfish, frogs, turtles and other natural water inhabitants. It seems that thanks to a few visiting herons; the mud pond never is over populated.
Many thanks to Ervin and Antoinette for hosting this fine event.
