One of the largest Koi Shows on the east coast was held in Orlando on March 8-10, 2013 with 6 members of the MKPC enjoying all it had to offer. The International Palms Hotel was the venue for the show and the awards banquet on Saturday night. Plenty of vendors, from koi dealers and breeders to water plants, from pond supplies to koi art and jewelry, were all present. Ervin & Antoinette Daniels, Dennis & Maria Long, and Ray & Teri Alexander checked out the deals and some of us left with purchases.
There were six seminars on Saturday, all of them attended by some or all of our members. Its great to learn from those with experience who share the knowledge they have gained in this hobby.
The Koi Show had 208 Koi entered into competition and what a show! So many larger Koi down there, all growing in the warmer weather. All the winners were announced at the Awards Banquet. The Grand Champion was a beautiful Kohaku and the Reserve Champion was a Sanke, both owned by the same couple, Penny and Grant Patton. Very exciting for them, especially since they had raised the Grand Champion from a small tosai to its present size. At the banquet, Ray presented the MKPC Friendship stone to Scott Maulding, the owner of a beautiful Matsukawabake.
For the first time, this annual show also included a Goldfish Show. I didn’t realize there are so many varieties. There were a lot of entries for this competition also. Seems to be quite an interest in fancy goldfish in Florida.
Same time next year?!!!! Anyone want to join us???
